Not In My Country – Akin Fadeyi Foundation Blog

The Pan-Nigeria citizen based campaign against retail corruption in Nigeria, tagged; Corruption, Not In My Country, an initiative of the Akin Fadeyi Foundation (AFF), has secured partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), under the Project, on Support to Anticorruption in Nigeria, which is fully funded by the European Union.

The overall objective of this initiative is to empower Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Nigeria and enhance their capacity, in the provision of services and participation in Anti- corruption crusade.

According to a statement signed by the Founder/Executive Director, Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Mr Akin Fadeyi, the support from the international bodies after a rigorous screening process, is a validation that the campaign not only meets global standards and best practices but also that it is a step in the right direction

“We are extremely proud to announce that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), under the Project on Support to Anticorruption in Nigeria which is fully funded by the European Union; have partnered with our nationwide campaign against retail and petty corruption- Not In My Country.

“This commendable support is coming after a strict short listing processes and other global standard measures. We shall be working in concert with other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), who also bring on board various advocacy projects, aimed at social reordering for a better society.

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, NPM, mni has approved partnership with Akin FadeyiFoundation (AFF) on its retail and grassroots Anti-Corruption drive, NOT IN MY COUNTRY. This is in furtherance of the organisation’s European Union (EU) funded Support to Anti-Corruption programme in Nigeria.

In a release from the office of the Inspector-General of Police and signed by his Principal Staff Officer (PSO), ACP Ibrahim A. Bakori, the IG said:

“I write to convey the approval of the Inspector-General of Police on the formal partnership with the Akin FadeyiFoundation on its “Corruption: Not In My Country Project”. The Partnership will be driven by the Foundation’s expertise in Citizen Voice and Action Advocacy and the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s zero tolerance for corruption.

This grassroots anti-corruption advocacy project is a timely and unique tool geared towards creating awareness of corrupt practices and how to prevent them. Using digital media, “Corruption: Not In My Country Project” will empower citizens to demand accountability from the Police, and create awareness amongst the personnel of the Force on the need to shun corruption”.

In his acceptance message, Executive Director, Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Mr. Akin Fadeyi said, “For us at Akin Fadeyi Foundation, this is another milestone in our quest to build an enviable, saner and development-oriented society. This partnership is germane to our unique desire to contribute our quota in building a Nigeria Police endowed with the tenets of transparency, accountability and excellent service delivery consistent with global best practices”. Fadeyi commended the IGP for being pragmatic, vision-driven and irrevocably committed to motivating the rank and file of the police institution especially through his recent approval of the promotion of Inspectors and members of the rank and file of the Police.

Fadeyi further expressed gratitude to International Development Partners particularly the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) under the Project on Support to Anticorruption in Nigeria which is fully funded by the European Union for partnering with the “NOT IN MY COUNTRY” campaign against retail and grassroots corruption.

Recently, the Foundation held an Anti-Corruption capacity building in Secondary Schools in Abuja, Some of them are Government Girls Secondary School Dutse; Government Day Secondary School, Dutse-Alhaji; Government Secondary School Bwari; Government Day Secondary School Bwari; Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada; Government Secondary School, Kwali; Government Secondary School, Hajj Camp and School For The Gifted, Gwagwalada amongst others.
